SPECIAL ABILITIES
Poison (Ex)
Bite, tail slap or spine shot—injury; save Fort DC 19; frequency 1/round for 6 rounds; effect 1d4 Con; cure 2 saves.
Powerful Bite (Ex)
The bite of a ba-she is incredibly strong. As such the ba-she add 1-1/2 their Strength bonus to the damage of their bite attack.
Spine Shot (Ex)
As a standard action, a ba-she can fire a single spine towards an enemy as a ranged attack against an enemy within 60 feet. Anyone hit must make a Fortitude save DC 18, or be affected by the ba-she’s poison.
The ba-she is the bane of villagers and villages throughout the land. Hibernating for years at a time, this serpentine creature emerges from its slumber hungry and will gorge itself on any creature that it finds, trying to sate its hunger, a rampage that can last for months at a time. Though it is smart enough to talk to intelligent creatures, it is highly aggressive and territorial and prefers not to interact in any way with the civilized races, though it will attack anyone trying to prevent it from consuming its prey.
A ba-she’s scintillating scales are normally a deep red or brown, but some have hues of green or blue as well, which usually corresponds with the snakes and serpents living in the area. Its spines harbor a paralyzing venom, and it is quite adept at twisting its serpentine body and releasing spines at its intended target, rendering them helpless. It can then unhinge its massive jaw and swallow creatures as large as a cow whole.
Most creatures fear the ba-she and its destructive abilities, but some try to appease the creature, believing it to be an incarnation of snake spirits, and they will leave food offerings outside the creature’s lair, hoping that in feeding it while it slumbers, it will hibernate for longer.
Legends hold that once a ba-she reaches a certain age (believed to be 1,000 years), it transcends its need for hunger, and becomes a powerful font of knowledge, more akin to a benevolent snake deity than a hungry force of destruction and that these transcended ba-she seek to enlighten the world around them, and share the knowledge that they accumulate.
